Remember those Resolutions....? - Fit Training Blog for Women 40, 50 and Beyond

It's the end of March, 2018... Do you know where your New Year's resolutions are?

Current research indicates that only 18% of Americans are in any way following the resolutions they energetically pledged on New Year's Eve-only 87 days ago! Most of those oft forgotten resolutions are about eating right and exercise, ultimately feeling and looking better in your body. Are you part of the small minority of folks still on your path, or part of the majority that have lapsed?

I don't like resolutions because of this exact reason- they fail. Then, you, in turn may feel like a failure, and you're not. Your human.

Human beings struggle with making changes to their habits, any changes. If eating donuts every day and sitting in your chair for hours is your norm, becoming a vegan triathlete is a long stretch- but so is something far simpler like eating that donut every other day and walking around the office the days you eat donuts.

If you were really committed to making a change, you would be sticking with it long after the excitement of making the resolution waned.

Here's some good advice from YogaJournal.com about giving those resolutions another shot- a "do over" of sorts!

"First, establish a motivation to practice starting over by observing what happens when you waste time feeling discouraged, escaping, or indulging your restless mind. Don’t judge yourself for getting lost. Just be mindful that this is what is happening to you."

"Be compassionate with yourself. As F. Scott Fitzgerald once wrote, “Vitality shows in not only the ability to persist but the ability to start over.”

So what to do? Pick one thing for your "do over"- and practice that one thing. Too many changes just leaves you looking at a list and thinking "loser". Remember, you just got a bit lost is all!

If you need a fitness Sherpa to help you on the path, I'm availalble!
