Does It Still Fit? - Fit Training Blog for Women 40, 50 and Beyond

Jeans don't lie. Neither does any form fitting garment. They seem to always tell you straight away how you are doing on your eating and exercise plan.

For many, long jeans, form fitting sweaters and outerwear jackets have sat idly in the drawer or hung in the back of the closet for months. Fall and winter is the time that you'll be wearing them again.

So, let me as the question....Do they still fit?

Even better, do you have a favorite outfit that you wore on a past vacation, holiday or how's this... in your own wedding... that still fits?

Wonder why not? Here are a few reasons:

1. You weigh more. OK, this one is an easy guess. Most people gain 2-3 pounds a year- doesn't sound like much until a decade (or two!) goes by.

2. You sit too much. Sitting decreases the activity of an enzyme called lipoprotein lipase (LPL), which helps burn fat. More sitting= more flab to stuff into your clothes.

3. Your weight is distributed differently. Your scale lies and using it to determine your health is a recipe for muffin top disappointment. Lean muscle doesn't hang over your pants or pop out of your shirt.

Retail stores would love you to purchase a new wardrobe every season, for any reason. However, being forced to buy larger clothes isn't as empowering as choosing new things because you want to and knowing your size before you enter the dressing room.

Finding clothes to "cover up" your belly, butt or thighs is called camouflage. No matter what, short, tall, pear shape or apple, you want to look and feel good in your clothes. Having them fit is the first step.
