As an aerobic dance veteran (yay Jane!), I love to move to music that moves me- do you feel the same way?
Here are three great reasons to shake your booty for health and fitness:
It’s as good as running. Running isn’t for every body or every person, especially as you power age. Yes, its fantastic cardio pumping exercise, but dancing can be too and the playlist is yours to create. Have you ever been at a wedding with a superb DJ that just spins your favorite hits until you are out of breath from dance fever? So much better than running for many- try it!
It’s a marvelous way to stay sure footed and balanced. Managing dance steps to a new marimba takes balance, stability and excellence posture. Your body exhibits kinesthetic awareness (“where ARE my arms and legs, anyway?”) which helps you sidestep falls, the number three reason folks end up in the ER.
It’s a workout for you mind, in addition to your body. Learning new dance steps, being present in the moment with an inspiring or emotive piece of music takes all your faculties, including cognitive ones. Combined with physical moves, your mind moves and stays healthy, too.
