It's August and a perfect time for a swim.
Since we began our existence surrounded by loving immersion, it's no surprise that any H2O experience is one of wholeness, completeness and is totally cleansing for body and soul.
EXPERIENCE LIFE Magazine recently did an amazing article on BLUE MIND explaining why being around water soothes our senses and hugs our psyches.
I'll include the link at the end of this post, but if you only have a minute, here are my favorite "takeaways" from the article:
Modern life is hard.
Our "Monkey Mind" is always on as our all of our digital devices.
Surrounding yourself with water, whether taking a time out on the beach, a long soak in the tub or an energetic swim gives us a bit of "blue mind", or water associated peace, defined as: A mildly meditative state characterized by calm, peace, unity, and a sense of general happiness and satisfaction with life in the moment.
We spend most of our time in "red mind"- edgy, on alert, full of stressors- OK for some time, but not good all the time.
Because bodies of water change and stay the same simultaneously, we experience both soothing familiarity and stimulating novelty when we look at them. This is regularity without monotony, the perfect recipe for triggering a state of involuntary attention in which the brain’s default network — essential to creativity and problem solving — gets triggered. This dreamy state of involuntary attention is a key characteristic of Blue Mind.
The good news is that we can access Blue Mind anywhere.
