Would You Run for Ice Cream? Chocolate? Beer?- Fit Training Blog for Women 40, 50 and Beyond
Gone are the days where the tee shirt and some orange slices were what you could expect after completing a 5K run or walk.
Not sure I am 100% behind some of these novel events, but hey! if it gets you out and off the sofa- why not?
Here are three events that promise yummy rewards:
The Ice Cream Race (Centerville, Va)
This family fun run is advertised as " the wildest 5k obstacle course in Virginia that will leave you screaming for ice cream!" You start be running through foam that looks like whipped cream, race through cherry bombs and into a water slide where you're sprayed with chocolate syrup and continue to a pit fully of banana peels (think of slip and slid Hot Fudge style).
You'll finish your race with what else? Ice Cream. You still have time to register, this race is June 25th. www.TheIceCreamRace.com
Hershey Half Marathon (Hershey, Pa)
This autumn event can be run individually or as a relay team and is open to runners and walkers over 14 years of age and with a 14 minute mile pace.
This event to benefit the Children's Miracle Network boasts handfuls of fun sized candy bars and 2 tickets to Hershey Park in the Dark. Get in on the fun October 16th, www.chocolatetownchallenges.com/hershey-half-marathon/
Sprint to the Brewery with a Craft Brew Race (Portland, Me)
Why stop at one post run brew when you can choose many? This 5K course is advertised as " A timed race open to craft brew lovers of all speeds." and as a finisher you even get a medal that doubles as a keepsake bottle opener. Also June 25th, www.craftbrewraces.com/portland/
