“If you had a friend who talked to you, like you sometimes talk to yourself, would you continue to hang around with that person?”
Rob Bremer
Uh Oh! Have you ever spoken or thought anything negative about your body or your fitness?
Thoughts like:
“Could my butt get any bigger?” “I hate my body!”
“I’m so fat and out of shape!
It’s OK; we all actually do this at least once and awhile.
Don’t beat yourself up for what is a normal human reaction. Did you know that as humans, we gravitate to the negative? That’s what gossip is all about- bad stuff about others. Did you ever notice that no one dishes about good things others do?
I am guessing that you may encounter a few moments of frustration, disappointment and overwhelm while you are trying on a new, active life. Don’t give up!
Please consider the use of positive affirmations to help you at least negate some of the thousands of negative body image messages you receive daily. The media, social media and maybe your friends and family telegraph messages that aren’t all rosy.
Here are a few affirmations that my clients have relied on to put one foot in front of the other, literally:
- Every step I take leads me to a fitter, healthier life. - I am capable of positive changes today. - Nothing tastes as good as fit and healthy feels!
Your words come from and also influence your thoughts; it’s a circle of communication that starts and ends with you. The sooner you acknowledge that you create your thoughts and have a choice about who to think about your body and your health, the sooner you can talk nice to yourself and reap the rewards.
Have that loving and supportive heart to heart chat with yourself soon!
