Panties or Commando when Working Out? Fit Training Blog for Women 40, 50 and Beyond
Panties or no panties?
You are getting ready to ramp up your workouts for the New Year. You’re a woman, over 50, that wants to exercise to turn back the clock. You are wondering just what do people wear to exercise, anyway? Are panties required?
Did you know that many women’s workout pants are actually meant to be worn sans underwear?
They are actually manufactured with special fabrics, layers and seaming to make a commando decision comfortable and less likely to cause bacterial issues. That’s great, cuz….eeew! No one wants extra bacteria.
Here are three key tips if you think commando is the way you’ll roll in the New Year:
Are your leggings luminous?
You may think all leggings are created equal and are trusty for full coverage, but sadly, it’s not the case. During a squat, lunge or roundhouse kick in boxing class, even the blackest of fabric gets stretched thin enough to flash those behind you.
Avoid the Marilyn moment by testing those leggings before you visit the gym or group X class. Take a mirror selfie or ask your BFF to tell you if a bit too much of you is on display. If your gear passes the test, fantastic! Otherwise, return them for another pair or wear flesh toned underwear or a long tunic to cover the evidence.
I just gotta wear them- which briefs work best?
Hey, I know many gals that wouldn’t be caught sans panties, ever! So, if you prefer covering your assets, swap out the old cotton briefs and invest in skivvies that are specifically made for exercise wear. They will wick sweat and fight any bacteria that may cause any how should I say….fitness fragrance. Natural materials work best for these garments.
I love my thongs, they’re good to wear, right?
It does sound like a great compromise, huh? A teeny little thong providing coverage with no visible panty line. Unfortunately most medical professionals will dissuade you from choosing this option for under workout wear. Remember that bacteria I mentioned before? The friction and heat in a vigorous workout can lead to UTI’s and other vaginal bacterial infections, no matter what fabric. Leave the thong for jean’s wear.
Whether you’re a woman working out commando or with special exercise panties, these tips will ensure you’ll get your workout in with confidence and sweat- safety. Post a comment on which way you roll, I’d love to know!
