Mistake of the Month - Not Lifting Large- Fit Training Blog for Women 40, 50 and Beyond

 OK, I won't post a mistake every month but I think we ALL make fitness mistakes in our day to day lives...  This mistake is one that most women make and many men get right.

You don't lift large.

 

 What I mean is most of us don't lift heavy enough weights to get results.  OR we lift the same weight over and over through the years.

 

Here are three of the most important reasons to life large:

 

1.  You'll burn more calories and lose more fat. 

            I know, you do lots and lots of cardiovascular exercise for this reason, right?  However this has got to be one of the biggest mistakes I see in my work.  Folks with more lean muscle burn more calories- even when they are at rest.  This is one of the huge reasons men bulk up (they love to work those muscles) and they also have more muscle by virtue of their gender, too.  Gaining muscle also improves the tone and provides a sleek, fit appearance to your body.  LIFT LARGE!

 

2.  You'll gain mind boosting benefits, too.

            Not only does exercise improve your minds focus, attention and provide an environment for better sleep, but when you begin to challenge yourself- nope, you are not too old or fat! Your confidence will soar.  What great life can you create with amazing confidence?  LIFT LARGE!

 

3.  You'll improve the operation of other body systems  including connective tissue (fascia) and bones.

            Bone density is a concern of many of my clients are they age.  Strength training is a great way to load up the muscle and improve the bones they support.  Fascia is the fibrous connective tissue present in our entire body, not just muscles.  Fascia that is frozen (think beef jerky- like) is not doing it's critical job of holding everything together in a healthful way.  Your brain loves strength training too! LIFT LARGE!
