For folks 40, 50 and beyond, The Eagles provided a classic musical accompaniment to our lives. I was thinking, after hearing the news of the passing of Glenn Frey, how much music impacts our body and soul.
So, in memory of Glenn, and one of his memorable songs, I am asking you- what would it be like if you could Take It to the Limit? Have the energy and strength to climb that mountain, ride that century bike ride or swim in the Pacific Ocean?
You see, your age matters little in the overall assessment of your life. What matters more is the enthusiasm, jazz and zest you bring to each one of your days. And, as with Glenn's passing, we are again reminded again how short life can be.
Take a moment to assess your energy right now. Are you up to the tasks of the day? Another meeting, perhaps, or maybe an afternoon of watching your grandchildren? What would it feel like to give it your ALL, have the energy to take on the days tasks and still have more left for your hobbies, your sports activities and other joys and then get a restful and restorative night's sleep and begin another gloriously active and energetic day?
If this seems like a nice, but unrealistic dream for you, let me suggest three things:
1. Get up, get outside and be with nature- We are a generation that remembers interacting with the beauty of nature- don't let it be only a fond memory. Dust off those hiking boots or bicycle, and get on a forest path.
2. Stop sitting to "visit" with your friends and family. Put down the phone and go for a "walk and talk". Chatting with a friend across country? Set a time to both take a walk in your respective states and shoot a few Smartphone pictures of what you see.
3. Be grateful. Every day you get to create or re-create your health and happiness. Do one thing today that makes your heart sing and causes a genuine smile to burst out...
So put me on a highway
And show me a sign
And take it to the limit one more time
Take it to the limit one more time....
