It’s Summer Olympics time and many of us are being entertained and enthralled by amazing athletes from 31 year old "senior" swimmer Michael Phelps to 16 year old Laurie Hernandez of the USA Women's gymnastics team.
Even if you are not a fan, you must acknowledge the focus, determination and drive that these athletes from around the world have for their sport – the passion is etched on their faces.
Let me ask you this...have you ever thought of yourself as a Gold Medalist?
What would it take for you to be a Gold Medal DAD/MOM, FRIEND or EMPLOYEE?
What if every fraction of a second made the difference in whether your day was a winner?
What if getting up at the crack of dawn to train before your real day started was the norm?
Every breath, every bite of food and every thought channeled toward being the best.
OK, that's the kind of discipline and determination that many wouldn't want to subscribe to, but what if you set aside just a few minutes extra each day to focus yourself on the areas in your life that need a bit of extra attention? Could you stand on your own ‘podium’ with a medal around your neck feeling proud and accomplished? I think so!
As a fitness motivator and coach, I see many people struggle with what they perceive as the daunting task to ‘get fit’. The truth is, with an additional few minutes a day dedicated to you and your health, you CAN be a medalist in your own, special way.
Permit yourself to dream a little- what would you like to see improve in your life? None of the outstanding athletes we see in the Olympic Games just showed up and walked on. They earned the spot on their team.
You can, too. GO YOU! Need a coach to help you ? I'm waiting in the bleachers!
