FOMO- “Fear of Missing Out” is one of the reasons scientists are concerned with use of digital devices.
Every ding indicating a new email, Linked In request or Facebook post triggers a “feel good” switch in your brain- “I am loved!” “I am important!”
However, screen addiction has proven to increase your stress level and decrease your ability to get good, restful sleep. That’s not a good thing.
Stress manifests in your body in many ways that decreases your ability to think clearly, make good decisions and feel optimally healthy. It’s estimated that 80-85% of disease and illness is not only related to stress, but DIRECTLY related to stress.
The #1 response to life stress is lack of restful sleep. Stress and poor sleep suppress your immune system, interrupting the job of keeping you healthy and disease free. Stress increases the chemical release of cortisol which also contributes to weight gain.
It’s fascinating that the #1 cause of insomnia is Lack of Exercise. Go figure! It eclipses chronic pain, jet lag and even menopause for the main reason you can’t sleep.
Let go of the FOMO and move your body instead of checking your digital device for another tweet or buzz... and your health will be better for it!
